About Calvin | Introduction

Calvin is a new and unique project that is hoping to change and help shape the future of how website development and management can be accessible to all users.

So how will Calvin do this? By providing a much more reliable, easy-to-use, easy-to-personalise, and hugely powerful system that so far, doesn’t yet exist in the world of pixels.

We originally started to develop Calvin (version 1) in 2004 to help us manage and maintain a community website based in Cambridge, UK. Since the project began, we realised that many other people had found themselves in a similar situation to us, and didn’t have the technical knowledge to help them produce and manage their own websites effectively.

After seeing how we maintained our own community website, other community leaders and organisations became more and more interested in finding out how they too could manage their own community websites in a similar manner.

Although Calvin Version 1 was designed specifically for us to use, having successfully completed our own community project, we were then able to focus on producing Calvin Version 2, which would allow anyone to easily produce and maintain their own website, regardless of its purpose.

Over the past two years, Calvin Version 2 has been in development. Over this time, a huge amount of research has been conducted to gain a better understanding of what people need from a Content Management System (CMS) and how Calvin can fulfil those needs.
